American Community Survey (ACS)The annual survey of about 3.5 million addresses that replaced the decennial long form, covering income, poverty, housing costs and tenure, commuting, educational attainment, disability, language, veteran status, and migration. One-year estimates are published for areas above 65,000 population; five-year estimates cover everywhere, including the smallest rural places. In most rural Western counties the five-year file is the only option, and margins of error on small-population estimates should be reported alongside the estimates.
